Story behind OBC Monday, Apr 9 2007

Well, many of you may not be aware that OBC (Other Backwards Classess) are not a constitutional creation in India unlike the SC and ST

When the constitution of India was created under the supervision of great people like Dr B R Ambedkar, they saw the needs to provide reservations for the socially backward classes categorized as Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) FOR A LIMITED PERIOD OF ONLY of about 20 years to bring the backward classes on equal footage with other classes of the society, not indefinitely, but thanks to Congress and its votebank politics, India has become the only country in the world where people compete to call themselves minorities and backward classes!!!

Let us leave the SC ST thing aside for a moment.

Where did these OBCs come from? Well, they were created in 1990s by VP Singh to create a votebank of his own. He listed all those vote bank classes who were not listed under SC ST as OBC and created another section of caste based vote bank, and the congress is determined to continue this to keep itself in power…

Now let me ask the congress and all other political parties, the logic for the existence of OBC categories in India. Why were they created in 1990s almost 45 years after the independence????? In fact after so many years of Independence, the rulers of this country should have created social equality so that even existing caste based reservations for SC ST should have been abolished!!

There could be only two reasons for the creation of OBC in 1990s

1) The great people who created our constitution in 1950 failed to identify other backwards sections of the society(!!!!)

2) After ruling the country for 45 years since independence, congress had ruined and looted the country so much and created so much more backwardness in the country that in 1990s it became necessary to create another section of backward classes in the name of OBC!!

I dont think reason #1 is appropriate because experts from all sections of the society worked on the constitution keeping in view the then social setup and the future of this country. Great experts like Ambedkar would not have missed the needs of any section of the society. Even otherwise it would not have gone unidentified for 45 long years!!!

So the only reason for creating OBC is reason #2, the Congress which ruled India for 45 years created more backwardness in India.. thats the reason why even today more and more castes are being categorized as backward in this country. While the original list of OBC was created it had about 200 castes in it, today its more than 2000!!

Give congress power for another 50 years and there will be MBC(Most Backward classes), MMBC, MMMBC…. and finally entire India will be covered under reservations!!

Continue voting for congress for a backward India!!

Reverse Discrimination Thursday, Mar 15 2007

This is exactly whats going on in India in the name of reservations.. reverse discrimination.

A student with 90% score is denied his rightful seat in an educational institution just because there is another candidate who belongs to the politicians created class called OBC even though the OBC candidate has a much lower score in the entrance exams than the general merit student!! Isn’t this a crime on the general merit student? Isnt he been denied his rightful seat in the educational institution? The situation might even be so worse, thanks to the mindless government policies, the reserved candidate might be the son of a rich IAS officer (who himself might have become an IAS officer not based on merit but based on his caste!!), while the 90% score holder general merit student might be the son of a poor school teacher!!!!!

One of the greatest racial discriminations is being conducted in India in the name of reservations today… Where is the end to this?

Shouldn’t reservations if they are really needed be based on economic basis than on caste basis? Does poverty discrimate between OBC and upper caste?? Does one need a harward degree to understand this simple commonsense?

The government has failed miserably in its obligation to provide quality primary education to all the children of India. In an effort to pass the bucks and to fuel its vote bank politics now they want the private sector to provide reservations in the jobs!!! Can somebody please tell me if they have heard anything more insane than this ?? Companies run business and for the business to succeed they need best of the brains and best of the brains are evaluated based on competition and merits, not on reservations… Can a 40% scorer be asked to design a pentium chip at Intel?? Is there a bigger joke than this? Most reserved candidates do not complete their IIT courses because they are not able to cope up with the subject as they never learnt the basics in the lower classes and were selected to IIT simply based on reservation!! Wouldnt such reserved seats have proved their worth if the same seat was given to a merit student instead of being wasted like this?? Arent we losing more einsteins and abdul kalams in this process? Isn’t this a denial of his fundamental right for the merit based student???

Why is the government so hell bent on creating a second class knowledge society in this country? I am not against the upliftment of backward classes. I would be more happy to see all 100% seats being occupied by SC/ST/OBC not based on reservations but based on their own merit. That will mean a India poised to become a superpower. People belonging to the so called backward classes  have to realise that the government does not want them to come up because of the fear of losing their vote banks and hence instead of providing quality primary education to students of these classes (and of course to all), it is sticking to cheap populistic but disastorous political moves like reservations. The government is determined to permanently label these classes as backward! What has the government done to provide quality primary education to children of these classes ( and of course to the poor in all classes upper or lower) in the past 60 years??

In our IT industry if a single project of 2 months fails, we have root cause analysis, lessons learnt documented and those who erred might even get fired.  What do you think should be the punishment to these politicians for having failed to deliver their promises? Indira Gandhi’s grand son is still roaming and campaigning in the state of uttar pradesh for elections using the same slogan and its derivatives used by his grand mother ‘Garibi Hatao’ (Remove Poverty!!)

In another 50 years it will be the so called today’s upper class who will be feeling that they have been discriminated for a century and then the upper class will start a movement for providing reservations to them… Where is the end to this vicious cycle??

Can any sane person in the government explain me how come the number of castes in SC/ST/OBC list has increased n folds in the past 30 years while logically speaking should be decreasing?? Does it mean that government (especially the congress party) suddenly realised that due to its inefficient functioning more and more communities are becoming backward as time progressed??

Making it a law to provide quotas in private sector will lead to the following immediate negative effects in the country:

  • Multinational companies want quality not quotas in the candidates and will leave India if forced to provide reservations
  • China will naturally overtake India even in the IT sector in which India had its lead till today. India currently leads the world IT offshoring services thanks to its merit based talented middles class and thankfully for the government not interefering in the way the IT industry conducts its professional business. But not anymore, government wants to tell IT who it has to hire and fire!! Who knows the government might also create a law where no reserved candidates should be in the list when a company has to do a layoff!!
  • More importantly, more and more frustrated brains will drain out of India to join NASA, IBM and Pentagon and our ISRO,HAL will continue to import spare parts for its satellites from US and european countries…

The government is saying to a General Merit based student with 90% score
‘Go to hell, you are a GM student’
The GM student will tell the government
‘You go to hell, I am off to US’

Coming days will decide who went where…

Atleast now we know what it really takes for India to be a superpower.. keep the politicians out of this entire business…

Who is an OBC? Monday, May 29 2006

THe recent government proposal to further divide the country based on caste by providing OBC reservation raised another question in my mind. Who or what exactly is an OBC??
The answer I found was shocking!! The concept of OBC never existed in the constitution of India which was formed in 1950. The original constitution had only the categorization of SC/ST and recommended reservations for SC/ST for a given time period to ensure social justice, which I feel was fair enough.

But in 1990, instead of taking concrete steps to ensure that caste based reservation system comes to its logical end after giving equal opportunities to all sections of the society, the great V P Singh implemented mandal recommendations by amending the constitution and creating a totally new category called OBC (Other Backward Class). Mr Singh’s government made the 93rd amendment to the constitution to add OBC to SC/ST category. More funny is the fact that the reservation percentage based on this amendment done in 1990 was decided based on a 1931 census!! Originally there were about 1200 communities classified as OBC in 1990 and today their number is about 2300!! Instead of becoming a knowledge based developed nation, today India is becoming more and more backward thanks to Congress and Co..

I simply cant understand that if this so called OBC really existed in India, then it should have been more visible in 1950′s to the authors of the constitution, when they couldn’t see any such section in society, where did this come up from suddenly in 1990??? V P Singh who had become PM opposing congress was just trying to create a votebank of his own in the name of OBC and hence the same Congress which is pro OBC quota and reservation today opposed the same OBC reservation tooth and nail in 1990!!! What happened to Mr Arjun Singh’s social justice in 1990???

And now, since there are about 2200 communities in OBC as opposed to about 1200 in the orignal list, there is less quota for a OBC community than in 1990, and hence a section of OBC today is demanding a further divide in OBC called MBC (Most Backward Classes!)

So what exactly is an OBC? An innovation of Indian political class, to which more and more votebank communities are being added every year.

It is highly unfortunate that we Indians fail to understand the political gameplans and become pawns in their moves. India badly needs us, its youth to take charge of the situation before it becomes toooooo late.

Me like OBC
and so, me no like reservations :)

Nehru on Reservations Monday, May 29 2006

What Nehru said against Reservation….and Now Congress doesn’t care about their own principles, just for the sake of Votes…

Simple Question: No Answer Sunday, May 28 2006

Question: Why Reservations based on Caste? Why not only Merit?
Government Answer: Because people of SC/ST/OBC do not get quality primary education to enable them to get merit.

Question: Why Can’t they get quality education? Cant they pay for that?
Government Answer: No, because they are poor. So they cant afford quality primary education.

Question: Fair enough. But are there poor people only in SC/ST/OBC? Aren’t there poor people in the so called upper caste? So doesn’t it make more sense to give reservation based on financial background rather than on caste?
Government Answer: ???????????

No answer from the government after this logical question. So, doesn’t the government have any logic? Well it does, but it is undocumented. The government logic is, how will we get SC/ST/OBC votes if we don’t show them that we explicitly take care(?) of them? So doesn’t the government care for the so called upper caste votes? No, simply because it does not have any weightage in electoral statistics. Also because the working middle class rarely go and vote. So my dear middle class, dont do this in the next elections please.

Can we grow teachers on Trees? Sunday, May 28 2006

Mr Prime Minister of India,

Being a technocrat, it would have been more sensible of you to think about the practicality of increasing the seats in IITs, IIMs and other higher educational institutions by 50%, before making such promises like a seasoned politician.

Just to eyewash the protesting students against caste based reservation (which of course does not make any sense), you are making promises like increasing seats by 50% which even more do not make any sense.

First and foremost, in all the higher educational institutions there is already an existing problem of shortage of teaching faculty by 30-40%!! Ask IISc director for instance and you will know the facts!
Given this fact, how on earth will you get the faculty to teach for the increased number of seats?? You definitely can’t grow quality faculty on trees like mangoes nor can you manufacture them in factories.

Then comes the infrastructure question. How on earth can you create the infrastructure to this whopping increase in seats? Laboratories and Libraries are not luxuries. This will just create a severe stress of existing facilities and will deprive students of their quality laboratory and library hours. When you talk about 50% increase in seats, it obviously means 50% increase in available space in all these institutions. Have you done any study or analysis on the feasibility of this in all higher educational institutions?? Can you please make this report public? Have you calculated the timeframe required to build the infrastructure for the additional 50% seats? Or have you left it all for the next governement as you are sure of not coming back after the next general elections??

Next we have the question of funds for all this. This requires atleast 8000 crores. From where will these funds come Mr Prime Minister? Till today not a single politician nor the finance minister has commented on from where the funds will be made available. While the same Finance Minister was brave enough to say that the nonsense promises of free gold chains, free televisions and free rice made by DMK in Tamilnadu elections were economically feasible!! Government is not a charity institution nor is the finance minister paying from his pocket. Instead of giving free things and converting people into zoo animals who cant hunt and depend on free food, empower people so that they can earn and buy these things on their own like how animals in a forest hunt on their own. But you wont do that because, the moment people can live independent of you, you will be voted out of power.

Coming back to the funds required for implementing the increase in number of seats and given the fact that the government still does not know where the funds will come from, how can you promise something which you have no idea of how to deliver? Again the people have been taken for a ride.

The recent proposal to increase the tax on salaried employees by removing all tax benefit schemes, is this part of an action plan to try to gather the funds for the proposed increase in number of seats?? Do you think we are a bunch of jokers sitting here who can be used in any comedy show run by you. Dont you think then it is high time that we again start looking at west and move out of India, in west atleast we are assured of respect for our knowledge, and are paid more compared to what we get here and more than anything there is true democracy and each penny of tax we pay is worth there.

Finally, you have lost our respect of being a right person in a wrong job by making these wrong promises and by being a part of this divisive and votebank politics. Any reasonable person understands in two seconds that if at all reservation is required then it should be based on economic backwardness ONLY as anybody can be poor irrespective of their caste and religion and only financial background based reservation will mean true social justice.

So the conclusion is there are two categories of people in India, one section which is highly intelligent and progressive and democratic, and the other which is full of fools, autocrats and uneducated literates. Unfortunately, the latter is ruling over the former.

Reservation in Private Sector!!! Sunday, Jan 15 2006

God Save India from the vote bank politics of this government. They cant even tolerate India developing with its IT talent. Now the government is demanding reservation for backward(?) castes in private sector too!!!

If things go as the government wants it to, then a java/.net programmer who receives 9 out of 10 in an interview might have to still lose his job because somebody else who received 6 out of 10 belongs to a backward caste!!!

What is this government trying to say by demanding reservation in private sector? Is it trying to say that IT companies and other private sectors are not giving jobs to backward caste people???
OR is it trying to say that backward caste people are not competent enough to get themselves jobs in the IT sector and other private companies and hence need reservation??

Coming to the practical side of it, what could be the end result of this? Well, thanks to IT and other booming private sectors like automobiles, biotechnology etc reverse brain drain had started and Indian talents had started to prefer India rather than migrating to US and other western countries. But now brain drain will start again, all top IT talents and others prefer to go back to west again rather than being here and losing job to less talented people just because they are not backward (in caste)!!

And do you think western giants like Intel, IBM, Microsoft will continue to stay in India after that?? No way. Thanks to the congress led government and its culture of appeasement politics and votebank politics India will suffer more and Great Indian Dream will move far and far from reality!

I was perfectly right when I thought that Congress back to power in centre means India being ruined yet again!!!

Recently, in the United States when a certain political section was against outsourcing of IT and other sectors to India and other eastern countries, the business class there ensured that not only did that political section be silenced but also lose its elections!!! Will our private industries including giants like Inforsys, Wipro, TCS show similar courage, guts and fight out the menace of reservation together and planning strategically?? Will they be able to pressurise the government to stop this disastorous move?? Will the government stop behaving like an Insane??
The result of this tussle will decide how faster we move towards the Great Indian Dream or how far will we be thrown from that…..
