A Democrat View – Terrorism and a Country
First it was one of the Democratic US Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, who said that if he became the US president, he would take the necessary steps to correct the currently wrong American strategy of war on terror saying..
“The first step must be getting off the wrong battlefield in Iraq, and taking the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan”
He went on to say “If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will..”
A Republican View – Terrorism and a Religion
Now it is one of the Republican Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo, who has said that the best way he can think of to deter a nuclear “terrorist” attack on the U.S. is to threaten to retaliate by bombing Islamic holy sites of Mecca and Madina !!
The War on Terrorism
As far as my knowledge goes.. terrorism has been a state policy of countries like Pakistan, which has been using terrorism as means to achieve its political goals and ambitions..
If there is no state support for any particular ideology, I dont think it is possible for that ideology to survive.. unless and until that state itself is in a civil war
So what is more important is to ensure that the roots of the problem are addressed.. and as I have said earlier the root lies in Pakistan, not in Mecca or Madina.. So I think Obama got it right..
Tom Tancredo is simply making the equation more complicated by introducing unnecessary variables into it..
